Over the course of the last week, my team members and I had the honor of doing a news story about the on going campus construction. Speaking of my team members, our team is called "Team 007". This is very appropriate and given my incredible enjoyment in the James Bond series I was happy with this name. My team consists of myself, Joanna, and Ben. I believe most of the time I'll be doing video editing, but they've expressed interest and hopefully that can give editing an attempt.
We started our goal of creating our news story by declaring exactly what we wanted to cover. After we were cleared and ready to go, we started collecting B-roll for our shoot. Unlucky for us, both days of our shoot were plagued with rain and dark clouds, rendering most of our footage in a muddy afterglow.
When we first started shooting on Friday morning we were nervous about our plan of action since there was no construction going on. We took a few shots and actually two of them ended up in the final video. If you look closely at the road work ahead sign since near the end of the video, you can see my image reflected in the sign. I hadn't noticed that during the shoot, but once editing came I was almost just going to abandon the shot altogether. Friday's work concluded with some general script writing.
We made plans to get to campus early on Monday morning to catch the commute. When I arrived at 9:30, it wasn't as congested as I would've wanted, but as you can see in the final project we certainly made due. We got a majority of our major footage in the morning and the interview was conducted in the afternoon. We couldn't of cut it any closer to the deadline, as Team 007 was editing the script right up until 8pm, giving me an hour to piece together the story. I'm very happy with our results and I think this team will continue to produce high quality video news. Look for the Bloopers video on Youtube, if you'd like to see one of the interviews we had to cut out.
The video itself deals with construction on campus and the headaches students are facing as a result. The construction is for new sewer lines because of a new student dorm going up for the Fall of 2009. Also seen is clips of the ongoing work, an interview with Joesph Pangborn, and sketches of what the new dorm will look like at the end of the construction.
